dreaming of spring blossoms and greens

Today is April 9th.  Despite the occasional spring snow flurry, typically by this point in the year, winter has come and gone.  But not this year.

Snow is falling.  Lots of it.  It did yesterday, too.  Ski resorts are setting off avalanche control blasts.  The city is operating snow plows well past the budgeted time frame.  And our neighborhood is filled with deer coming off the mountain in hopes of finding food.

This is what it looks like.

As someone who thrives on sunshine and being outdoors, I find myself hermiting it up and on the verge of stir-crazy.

In particular, I have been waiting for warmth in which to go run and for rain showers to dampen the earth and ready it for digging.  I’ve had seed packets and berry bushes on my kitchen table for the last month waiting to be planted.  And, I’ve been dreaming – literally – of spring blossoms and greens to emerge, lighting up the yard and the hillside behind our house.

The other night, my wintery, angst-ridden subconsciousness prompted dreams filled with technicolor fields of fuchsia flowers and kelly green leaves, orange hills, and brilliant sun lighting a late afternoon sky.  I awoke with a feeling of warmth and happiness.  The imagery was so different from the stark, snowy world that is visible through my window today.

I tried to recreate the vision to brighten my day:

Fingers crossed, the dream will soon be a reality.
